but 0 only has a meaning in a binary system of 1's and 0's.
i suggest the following:

 .... "1"
  .... "2"
   .... "3"
    .... "4"
     .... "5"
etc.

where the number of significant absent symbols to the left of the slightly
augmented ellipses can be determined by inspection.
