Windows? On a Linux list?

:-P~~~~

First suggestion: Install Linux. (back on topic this way)

Was a release issued before a renew?
Renew will only try to update a lease for a pre-existing lease and will
contact the same server that issued the lease. The lease must be released
before a new one can be obtained.

C:> ipconfig /release all
or?
C:> ipconfig /release /all
? dont recall where all works with this.
(might be a bit different but on windows tell it to release the bound IP
address)
C:> ipcoinfig /renew

If running Windows 95, 98 or ME, then :
C:> winipcfg
(GUI pops up.) Release, Renew for the proper interface.

If none of these work, then
C:> regedit
(Find/search) enter IP address of the DHCP server that you use at home.
See if the reg entry has to do with DHCP. Change it or delete it if so.
(You may want to save that branch of the registery into a file before
deleteing.)

Make sure that the TCP/IP settings include use DHCP to acquire DNS.

If you have a DHCP scope on client, eliminate.

If none of these work, send her a Linux install CD.

Maybe someone should start a windows user group in sonoma county so they
can take on windows questions.
