[NBLUG/talk] Lost my mouse!

I lost my mouse (cat cannot even find it!)....

After running up2date on my RH 9 system and doing a reboot to install 
the new kernel, the mouse no longer appears - just my KDE GUI....

So my Linux 1A question is  "how do I tell the system that I have a nice 
serial mouse connected?".

In trying certain keystrokes, I "remembered" that Ctrl-Alt F1 gets me a 
terminal screen....now what?
