I'm pretty sure that means that you're missing the "rhnlib" package. You
should be able to download an appropriate rhnlib RPM (from CD, from a
website, something...) and install that and make up2date work.
The specifics depend on what distro you're running. RHL 9? RHEL? Fedora
something? Tell us what "rpm -q redhat-release" or "cat /etc/redhat-release"
have to say on this system.
