Here's another helpful hint for Fedora and RHEL 4.
   If you delete or move the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, you can run 
"/usr/bin/system-config-display" and it will generate a new, usually 
working, file for you automagically.
  This is assuming you have "system-config-display" installed.
