Oooooooh! I didn't realize how far behind I am:
KDE 3.1.3 on MDK 9.2

Hmm. Given the age of my version it may just be a bug.

I stopped Klipper & it still happens. I may need to reboot
(or at least restart KDE) for it to take effect. It may also be
that I just need to exit my last Konsole session to make it
notice the new state.
