Hello all,

I have seen recommendations for disabling java in OpenOffice to
alleviate the slow start issue. Might be worth a try.

Go to the Options and uncheck the Java option (Use a java runtime environment).

There is a recent slashdot.org thread about OpenOffice getting more
and more bloated and slower as times goes on:
