[NBLUG/talk] interlace jitter with tovid

Hi Everyone,

I'm taking video shot on a typical mini-dv camcorder. importing it as
raw dv to my computer using "dvgrab". Then I'm using "todisc" which uses
the "tovid" script to make dvd files.

The resulting DVD is unwatchable whenever there is any motion -
pulsating shadows and ghosts. I imagine it has to do with some multiples
of interlacing-deinterlacing and reinterlacing.

If I view the raw dv files on the computer all is good.

If I view the intermediate mpg files all is good(these are the files
that take a long time to create).

If I view a final VOB file on the computer, the ghosting is there.

This seems really weird, since the VOB file creation is near the end and
takes very little time.

Anyone know the option to hit "tovid" with to make it work right?

I think that the video starts out from the camcorder interlaced, but
somewhere in the "tovid" process it gets deinterlaced and then
reinterlaced. If somehow I could keep it interlaced through the whole
process it would work properly.

Thanks,

Bob
