  I halted dd_rescue. I was running it with the notebook drive connected 
in an external case by USB.
The case also has an e-sata port, but my board doesn't support that.

So I thought maybe I'd have better luck running it native on the sata 
controller on my desktop. The only reason
running in on the USB is so that I could boot the OS then plug the drive 
in. First try on Ubuntu gave me some kind
of time error, and dropped me at terminal. But going into BIOS, the 
drive is not detected.

At this point I have a feeling that it's hosed. So the question is if I 
ran this off an e-sata do you think I'd have a better
chance of getting the data than USB??

Otherwise I'll have to tell me friend her drive is kaput.
