[SoCoSA/discuss] snmpd

I noticed something odd this morning... when working with the snmpwalk
command, when I ran the command to check itself, but using an IP
address or hostname instead of localhost, I got the "Timeout: No
response" error message. If I use localhost instead, it gives me a
response.

Is it possible that I'm using the command line tool incorrectly? Is it
not able to handle IP addresses or hostnames? Do I have to set up each
system in the snmpd.conf file in some way? I had assumed that having
the remote host set up in my hosts file would be sufficient.

Also, I uninstalled ipchains just to be on the safe side, but it
seemed to have no effect. So far as I can tell I no longer have any
remnants of a firewall on either of these systems.
