[NBLUG/talk] Debian and apache.

I installed Apache on my debian system, and I just noticed an odd behavior

If I point my browser to a directory on my server with out a /
at the end I get a 404 error, yet the same URL with the / works

Example:

http://somedomain.com/mail
returns a 404 error
yet
http://somedomain.com/mail/
works just fine.

(note: not really using somedomain.com.. just an example)

Is this an apache config issue?  if so anyone know what it is? I browsed
through the httpd.conf file and can't see any reference to this.
