Please try to show up a little earlier than usual. We'd like to pass out
ballots and have all the voting done by 7:35. (starting at 7:25 or so) We
hope to have everything counted and tallied by the end of the meeting.
THE GIMP
Many of you probably remember Bill Kendrick from his presentation on
TuxPaint. This time he's covering a more serious paint program that he
didn't write himself, The Gimp.
The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed
piece of software suitable for such tasks as photo retouching, image
composition and image authoring.
ELECTIONS
http://nblug.org/members.shtml (a little ways down) has a list of the
people nominated for each position. We'll also have ratification of the
NBLUG Constitution as an item on the ballot. The proposed constitution is
available at http://nblug.org/documents.shtml and we'll have a printed
copy or two available for review at the meeting, as well.
Three of the positions only have one candidate, we need a 2/3rds approval
for that candidate to officially take office, so check the box if you
approve of that candidate.
Scribe has 2 people nominated, so simply check the box next to the person
you'd prefer.
For the "Directors At Large", pick up to 2 candidates, much like for
school board elections.
In the future we'd like to do this electronically, but for now the
election is pencil and paper at the meeting.
GPG
There will also be a GPG keysigning party after the meeting. Contact

WHAT: GnuPG Key Signing Party.

WHEN: After the general meeting.
WHY: A key signing party properly facilitates the signing of your
GnuPG public key by other GnuPG users. Having your public key signed
increases the "web of trust" for everyone, and brings more validity to
your key, as it represents your identity.
What to bring?
1. Your self (physical attendance is mandatory)
2. Picture ID
3. Your Key ID, Key type, HEX fingerprint, and Key size
(probably just make a print out from your keyring...unless
you've got all this memorized ;) )
4. Something to write with
5. NO computer!
How does it work?
1. Before the party generate a key pair, and either upload your
public key to a public key server such as www.keyserver.net, or be
prepared to tell people from where they can access your public key on
the internet.
2. Email your public key to the coordinator: augie(a)nblug.org
3. The coordinator prints a list with everyone's key ID, key type,
fingerprint, and key size from the compiled keys and distributes
copies of the printout at the meeting.
4. Bring along a paper copy of your key ID, key type, fingerprint,
and key size that you obtained from your own keyring. Also bring a
photo ID.
5. You will be making two marks on the listing, one for correct key
information (key ID, key type, fingerprint, and key size) and one if
the ID check is ok.
6. Now mingle. The point is to meet as many people, and get as many
signatures as you can.
7. When you meet someone read your key ID, key type, fingerprint,
key size, and user ID from your own printout, not from the
distributed listing. This is because there could be an error,
intended or not, on the listing. This is also the time to confirm ID
information. If the key information matches your printout then place
a check-mark by the key on your own distributed list, and if the ID
appears to be valid place another check-mark on your own distributed
list.
8. That's it! When you get home, take a look at your list, any keys
on your list with TWO check-marks are valid keys, and you may
download that key from the keyserver or from another location that
the key owner has specified. Sign that key and upload it back to the
server you got it from, or email it back to its owner.

What is an InstallFest and who can come?
Instead of putting all of the usual "what is an InstallFest" info in
this and future announcements, we have a link up on our website as to
what a NBLUG InstallFest entails and how to participate. If you point
your browser of choice to http://www.nblug.org/installfest/, you'll be
presented with all the info you ever wanted to know about what goes on
at an InstallFest, and how you can get the most out of attending one.
Anyone is more than welcome to attend. If you need help or just want
to hang out and talk, you are more than welcome to show up. They are
always totally free; you might want to bring a few dollars for pizza,
however.
How do I sign up?
We will again be taking signups for this InstallFest, so please be
sure to visit that URL if you plan on attending. People, who signup
and reserve a time slot, are first in line. We've found that by
taking signups, we can help more people in a timely fashion. We can
also make sure that enough helpers are available for those wanting
help. If you need help at the last minute, you can still just show up
and we'll probably be able to help you, but it really helps us if you
register first, preferably a week or more in advance so we have a
chance to beg for more helpers if we need them.
What if I want to offer help?
If you're interested in helping out, please contact
installfest(a)nblug.org or greg(a)nblug.org; if you've successfully
installed RedHat (or Mandrake or SuSE or Debian or FreeBSD or OpenBSD
or YellowDog or ...) before, you can probably help out. We can even
use a bit of help from somebody helping people bring their heavy
equipment in. Besides, it's fun to come hang out with all the geeks.

For helpers, the schedule is a little different:
8:00AM - Breakfast (optional) at an undecided location.
10:00AM - Room open to helpers for setup
10:30AM - Installs begin (event start)
4:00PM - Installs should be done by now.
4:30PM - Installs must be done by now.
5:00PM - Room closed; alarms go off, doors lock, police show up.
We always need helpers, and we can usually use more helpers than we
get. It's a good way to "give back" to NBLUG and it's a geeky good
time. (If you're interested in helping out but can't do an
InstallFest, please consider giving a presentation, contact
speakers(a)nblug.org

The InstallFest will take place on Sonoma State's campus. We will be using
room Schulz 1121, which is in the Schulz Information Center (aka, the
Library). Directions and information on parking follow.

Parking on Saturday is free. You may park in either Lot D or Lot J. Note
that any lot that is marked, as residence parking is OFF LIMITS at all
times unless you have a proper parking permit.
If you need to park close to the building to bring your equipment in,
there is 30 minute parking on the West side of Schulz and on the East side
of Schulz there are two 15 minute spots. Once you drop your equipment
off, you should move your car to one of the other lots mentioned above.
Handicapped parking is available in the reserved lot areas, and on the
West side of the library near the library loading zone. Handicapped
parking is labeled.
